Definition
A monthly estimate of private-sector hiring from ADP (Automatic Data Processing), a payroll-processing company, based on its own payroll data. It usually comes out the Wednesday before the government's jobs report, at 7:15 AM CT (Central Time).
The story
On Nov 4, 2026, ADP said private employers added 86,000 jobs in October, a bit above forecasts, and revised September to 86,000. ADP's count and the government's can differ, because they measure different things in different ways, so traders treat ADP as a preview, not a forecast.
Why markets watch it
As one of the first reads on hiring each month, it can move futures two days before the official jobs report.
