Methodology & Standards

Our standards are public so you can hold us to them. This is how we source, label, observe and correct.

The key

Every line we publish carries one of four marks. Learn them once and you can read any Retest story at a glance.

Reported fact
What an official release or a named outlet reported. Always linked to its source, with the time it was published.
Analyst view
A forecast or opinion. The person or firm is always named. A view is never presented as a fact.
Our read
Our interpretation of what something may mean. Labeled every time, so it is never mistaken for fact.
What price did
Observed market behavior, with times in Central. What happened, not what we wish had happened.
  1. I

    How we source

    • Primary releases first: the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Federal Reserve, company filings.
    • Then credible outlets: Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times.
    • Every story shows its source, its publication time, the event time and the time zone.
  2. II

    How we observe the market

    • For scheduled releases we watch from roughly 30 minutes before to 30 minutes after, then follow the session if the story develops.
    • We record whether price accepted, rejected, broke, held, failed, continued or reversed around the levels that matter.
    • We never present hindsight as if it was known at the time. Past outcomes do not guarantee future results.
  3. III

    What we never do

    • Give trade signals or tell anyone to buy or sell.
    • Make income claims or show performance we cannot verify.
    • Manufacture urgency or certainty.
    • Run paid promotion disguised as coverage.
  4. IV

    Corrections

    • Material errors are corrected in public, with a note saying what changed and when.
    • Corrections stay visible. We do not quietly edit and move on.
    • Report an error: hello@theretest.com
  5. V

    Community conduct

    • Respect is required. No harassment, spam, impersonation or undisclosed promotion.
    • Label opinion as opinion. Back up claims with sources or data.
    • No fabricated data or misleading screenshots.
    • No trade signals, calls or financial advice. No selling or unrequested DMs.
    • The Retest will never DM you first or ask for money.

The Retest provides market news and education, not financial advice. Trading and investing carry real risk of loss. These standards were last updated on November 3, 2026. Full disclaimer and disclosures.
