Definition
An analyst's estimate of where a stock's price should be, typically 12 to 18 months from now.
The story
An analyst might set a $150 target on a stock trading at $120, implying they see room for 25% upside. Targets get raised and cut as companies report and conditions change, and different analysts' targets for the same stock can be far apart.
Why markets watch it
Changes in price targets can appear in coverage of why a stock moved.
