DAX

Definition

Germany's main stock index, the DAX (Deutscher Aktienindex, German for "German stock index"): 40 of the largest companies listed in Frankfurt.

The story

It includes industrial and auto giants, so it's sensitive to global trade and tariffs. It expanded from 30 to 40 companies in 2021.

Why markets watch it

Germany is Europe's largest economy, so the DAX is widely watched as a gauge for the region.
