Definition
A chart that plots one price per period, usually the close, and connects them with a single line.
The story
News graphics mostly use line charts because they're the easiest to read at a glance: a year of the S&P 500 becomes one line. What you lose is the detail inside each period, the open, high and low, which a candlestick chart shows.
Why you'll see it
Most charts in mainstream market coverage are line charts of closing prices.
