Definition
A stock index of nearly every company listed on the Nasdaq exchange, more than 2,500 in all.
The story
The Nasdaq-100 is the 100 biggest names; the Composite is the whole exchange. When the evening news says "the Nasdaq," it usually means the Composite, and so does our record.
Why markets watch it
It's the "Nasdaq" in most closing reports.
