Nasdaq-100

Definition

A stock index of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange, heavy in technology.

The story

On Oct 14, 2026, after a hot CPI (Consumer Price Index) report, the S&P 500 closed down 1.1% but the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1.9%. Tech stocks tend to react harder to rate worries, because more of their value depends on profits far in the future.

Why markets watch it

NQ (E-mini Nasdaq-100) futures track it, and it's often the most rate-sensitive of the big indexes.
