Definition
Taiwan's main stock index, the Taiex (Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index), from the Taiwan Stock Exchange, weighted by market value.
The story
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, is by far its biggest weight, so the Taiex is closely tied to the AI (artificial intelligence) chip trade. On Nov 4, 2026, it fell 0.8%, per AP (the Associated Press).
Why markets watch it
It's one of the clearest overseas gauges of the chip and AI trade.
