Definition
A trend is the general direction prices have been moving. A trendline is a line drawn along the highs or lows to show it.
The story
Zoom out on a chart and ignore the daily zigzags: is the line mostly climbing, falling or going sideways? That's the trend. A trendline is the ruler laid along it.
Why you'll see it
"Uptrend" and "downtrend" show up in market wrap-ups every day.
