Definition
The UK's central bank. Its nine-member Monetary Policy Committee sets interest rates for the pound.
The story
The committee meets eight times a year and publishes how each member voted, so markets can see how divided it is. Four of its eight decisions a year come with its quarterly Monetary Policy Report.
Why markets watch it
Its decisions move the pound, UK bonds and, through them, global rate expectations.
