Bull market

Definition

A long stretch of rising prices. A common definition is a rise of 20% or more from a recent low.

The story

The image: a bull thrusts its horns up. Bull markets can last for years, interrupted by pullbacks and corrections along the way. People who expect prices to rise are called bullish.

Why markets watch it

Whether the market is in a bull or bear phase frames a lot of market commentary.
