Definition
The two parts of a candlestick. The thick body spans the open and the close; the thin wicks (also called shadows) show how far price traveled beyond them, up to the high and down to the low.
The story
A candle with a small body and long wicks says price swung a lot during that period but ended near where it started. A long upper wick means price climbed during the period but was pushed back down before the close.
Why you'll see it
Chart commentary often points to long wicks as a sign that buyers or sellers pushed back at a level.
