RBA (Reserve Bank of Australia)

Definition

Australia's central bank. It sets the cash rate, Australia's key interest rate, and its decisions come out in the afternoon in Sydney, which is late evening the day before in US Central time.

The story

On Nov 3, 2026, the RBA raised its cash rate target by 0.25 percentage point to 4.85%, an 18-year high (Bloomberg). Six board members voted for the hike and three voted to hold. It said there was "an increasing risk that higher inflation expectations will become embedded."

Why markets watch it

Its decisions land while US futures trade overnight, so they can move the Australian dollar and other markets before the US session opens.
