Retest

Definition

When price comes back to a level it recently broke through, often testing whether that level now holds from the other side.

The story

Say a stock spends months stuck under $50, then finally breaks above it. A week later it drifts back down to $50. That return visit is the retest: the old ceiling is being tested as a possible new floor. Sometimes it holds, sometimes it doesn't, which is why coverage watches it. It's also where our name comes from: we come back after the news to check what actually held.

Why you'll see it

Coverage uses it when a market returns to a level it just broke.
